Contact: Georgana Mayne OR Sue Silver

Where: Aurora, Nevada
Time: 1:00 p.m.

Mineral County will honor nine veterans whose eras of military service spanned from the War of 1812 to the Civil War at a dedication of a monument placed at the cemetery at the ghost town of Aurora, southwest of Hawthorne. The veterans being memorialized died at Aurora between 1861 and 1901 and rest in unmarked graves in the cemetery.

The dedication service will take place at Aurora on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. and the public is invited. The service is sponsored by the Mineral County Commissioners and the Mineral County Museum and will be assisted by the Gen. William Passmore Carlin Camp No. 25, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, which will provide a military service and honor guard in keeping with the traditions of the time.

Placement of the memorial monument fulfills the County's contribution to the Nevada 150's celebration of Nevada's Sesquicentennial commemoration.
